Freeport aka New Tolkori
Thirty-five years ago, at the height of the Tolkorian's power, King Hazzan the First sent forth explorers to discover new lands and extend the Tolkorian Empire. Across the Great Sea they sailed and nought was heard for a year till a ship limped back to Dunport telling of such a new land. After much planning, ships where sent out to claim this land in the name of Tolkori and to build a colony there.
During this time the natives of this new land had not lain idle and when news that these 'vistors' had returned came, great Councils were held to determine what best reaction to these foreign invaders. After much deliberation and thought it was decided that the Tolkorians would be allowed to settle but would be given the site of an old an ancient city, half sunken in the swamps near the coast. It was hoped that the Colonists would be forced to leave. This plan did not go according to plan.
New Tolkori as the City was to be called was to be found in the middle of the swamp but close to an estuary that led to the sea. The Tolkorians initially traded some of the goods that they had brought with them in exchange for wood and quickly set to damming and draining thee swamp, releasing the city from its watery prison and was once more populating it.
Angered that they had been cheated, the natives of three of the Tribes who's lands bordered on the Tolkorians new lands raised their armies and marched upon the Tolkorians, seeking to repel them from their newly given lands and back across the sea from whence they came. Yet the Tolkorians had yet another trick up their sleeves that they had not yet shown the Tribes, Gunpowder weapons. As the armies of the Three Tribes marched forwarded they were felled by volley after volley from the Tolkorians Muskets.
Eventually eaach side met and a Treaty was put in place. In exchange for the city to be guarded, the Tolkorians would be allowed to stay and trade agreements would be put in place so all would benefit from the new wonders that the Tolkorians have brought.

The Tribe of the Bear
Little is known of the Tribe of the Bear. To the observer they would seem at first to be an ignorant race, living in small settlements of huts made of thatch and mud, eeking out livings of farmers, fishermen and hunters. They live the simple life, not wanting for more than the land can provide for but seek not to anger them for they are fearsome in battle, fighting with skill and ferocity that belies their simple upbringing.
All this though is wiped from the mind if you are given grace to speak with the Elder of the Settlement for they are powerful built men, as if age cannot topple them. They are soft spoken and show great patience and understanding, and within their eyes hides wisdom waiting to shine forth. They are the opposite of the young and command great respect, their Word is Law and only the foolish of the Bears would risk disobeying them.
The Elders of the Tribe that do live in the Settlements reside in a place known as Boranath, a fortified Monastry and the seat of Power of the Tribe. Little is known of this place which lends greatly to the mystery that surrounds the Tribe. |

The Tribe of the Crane
The Tribe of the Crane as it is known by the other Tribes exist for the most part on an island of the east coast off the Known Lands. The Tribe is split itself into many smaller Tribes but is known as a whole by which tribe holds the title of Emperor. For the last five hundred years this has been the Cranes.
The most significant difference between the Crane Tribe and the other tribes is the race themselves for they are all Elves. High and mighty and proud, they have distanced themselves from the other tribes, developing their own culture which is based on strict classes which can appear somewhat feudal to outsiders but within, each knows their place within society.
The Island is the smallest of the Lands but the Crane tribe takes this as a blessing for there is no wastage and the tribe wants for nought.
For the most part though, only those considered halfbreed, of different racial parentage will be seen abroad in the lands of the other tribes for from the nature of their birth they are considered tainted and for the most part banished from the Lands.

The Tribe of the Dragon
The Dragons are a curious race for like the Tolkorians they are not native to the land yet unlike the Tolkorians they are accepted of the land by the other Tribes.
The Dragons seem much like the other Tribes yet show much more civility and next to the Tolkorians are the most technologically advanced. They are also the most travelled of the Tribes, accepted in all of the Lands as Traders and Merchants. The Dragon coin is the most used of any in the Land is accepted by all, even the Emperor of the Lion Tribe permits his subjects to use it for trade.
The Dragon tribe are however not a warlike race, concentrating on keeping what they have as opposed to invading the lands of their neighbours. They do however show great understanding in the defence of their lands and to the lands of the North where most fear to tread and the tales of Monsters originate, they have built a gigantic fortress to stave of such attacks. No army has ever marched against the Fortress yet it is held that there will one day be one. A lot of the other Tribes call this place a folly but one which shows great skill and beauty.
The Fortress goes by the name of Cael Forwain and is the seat of power of the King of the Dragons.

The Tribe of the Eagle
Of the three great cities of the Known Lands, Avalon is perhaps the strongest and most defensible. Set on an Island in the middle of a lake shrouded in Mist, The city is a magnificent creation, both a city and a castle with a labryinth of tunnels weaving their way through the building. This is the seat of power of the King and his court and it is know to all as Avalon.
The Tribe of the Eagle in part show much similarity to the Tribe of Stag and many of their warriors serven in the Eagle Tribe's army for what the Tribe lack in numbers they make up for in training and discipline. To be trained as a warrior of the Eagle Tribe is a great honour.
The Tribe is also cultured and within them exists a strong code of chivalry, for the rule of the King is Just and all are held accountable by their actions, whatever their station in life.
The land itself is split into smaller Kingdoms, each of these ruled by a Vassal Lord or Baron. Under the rule of these the chain descends until the lowest rank of serf is reached.

The Tribe of the Stag
The Tribe of the Stag are by far large the most welcoming of the Tribes. Their nation is split into four seperate kingdoms, each ruled by a King or Queen (the Tribe believes that power should go to the most able and not based their sex) who's power extends from their seat of power, usually Hill Fort or other such fortified area. The Nation itself is led by a figure known as the High King or Queen, and it is to them that the other rules give fealty to.
The Tribe's main commodity amongst their neighbours is the Tribe themselves. Known as mighty warriors, it is their versatility and adoptive styles of fighting that have led them to be employed as mercenaries over the known land and they are second to the Dragon Tribe of those most travelled.
As a race however they enjoy life in all its forms, whether it be drinking or carousing or dancing or singing. Storytelling to them is not an art form but a way of life and is from them that many a fantastic tale has been spun.
